Why there are so many dragons in Vegas this weekend
Vegas, baby!
That’s right, I’m in Las Vegas at the moment (trying to deal with the 3-hour time difference that only a parent can properly complain about).
Why am I here, you ask?
It’s not because of the gambling (I’m not really a gambler). It’s certainly not the night life (if I make it past 9 pm Vegas-time it will be a miracle). It’s not even because I’m trying escape all those kids at home (turns out, I kinda like them).
No, it’s because we are on our annual Dragon Army company trip! Every year we pay for all of our team members and a plus one to go on a 4-day vacation.
Typically we’ve taken the team on cruises, but this year the team convinced me to try Vegas, which is how I find myself writing this blog post at (GULP) 4:30 am Vegas-time, baby!
Our company trips have no trust falls or silly get-to-know-each-other games. Very little required meetups, actually. It’s more of a thank you to the team for all the hard work they put in throughout the year. And hopefully new friendships are formed across the team, and existing ones are strengthened. Because more than anything, that’s where trust comes from. And trust is the key to most everything.
Our purpose at Dragon Army is to Inspire Happiness.
It’s not just a slogan or a cute phrase to throw on the wall (actually, that reminds me, its totally on my list to get it on the wall soon). It really does guide how we behave and how we operate our business.
When a big or tough decision is to be made we ask, “what answer will inspire the most happiness?” Our annual company trip is a perfect example of this. Yes, we could save the money and put it toward investing in innovation or we could simply hold onto it for future cash flow needs. Yes, the multiple days of billable time would be nice not to miss. But we’ve built in the expense and its not easy to find ways to truly thank your team members for all the hard work they put in throughout the year.
So, we’ll see everyone back in Atlanta on Monday. For now, wish us luck 😜
