My talk at Purpose on Tap: Spider-man and Privilege

I was so honored last week to be asked to speak at the monthly gathering of Purpose on Tap. Thanks, Bobby, for suggesting to the group that I speak…and for the selfie right before my talk ;)

The theme of my talk to these 150 men was simple: recognize you have privilege, and with that privilege comes responsibility. As Spider-man says: With great power must also come great responsibility. This is why I have a personal Purpose to have an out-sized, positive impact on the world. I’m off the charts when it comes to privilege in this country world, and therefore I have a responsibility to use my unwarranted advantages to try to even things up a bit.

It’s why I created 48in48, it’s why I work with nonprofits like Central OAC, Future Foundation, and Love Beyond Walls, and it’s why I wanted to give the talk to the men of Purpose on Tap. If even a few of the guys are more aware of their privilege, in a way that has them find ways to do more good in the world, then I did my job that night.

Considering this group has had Jeff Foxworthy talk to them (WHAT?!), I felt like I had to bring my A-game. Hope it made an impact!
