Create a culture in which it is okay to make mistakes and unacceptable not to learn from them
From the fantastic book, Principles:
Create a culture in which it is okay to make mistakes and unacceptable not to learn from them
Similar to the post I wrote last week about the unnegotiable component of a successful team, also from Principles, this quote is so incredibly on point. A culture in which mistakes are both embraced and learned from is critical, and people often leave out the second part of the equation.
I like to think of this as: Only make new mistakes. Taking risks and making mistakes is only powerful if you learn from them. That’s where real growth comes from.
But you do have to be taking chances, because if you’re not making mistakes then you’re likely being driven by a desire to avoid them, which is where most established, slow-moving companies find themselves. And is one of the main reasons I’m writing my book.
