Edinburgh update #3
We have LOVED our time in Edinburgh so far. We have been here for three weeks and we have another week left (Oh, why are we doing this? Here’s why.)
We could not have chosen a better city to spend a month in with our family. It’s the perfect walking city, and we’ve been walking everywhere. We’ve taken the bus and the train a few times (we did not rent a car,) but mostly we’ve walked. Our average per day is over six miles, and one day we topped ten.
And the weather! Everyone told us the weather would be bad during our trip (cloudy, cold, and rainy,) but it’s been just the opposite. Most days are sunny and in the 70’s and 80’s, which is perfect for all that walking.
At one point my nine-year old daughter said, “Daddy, why is everyone here so nice?” It’s been astonishing how truly nice everyone has been to us, even when we roll in with our big, large, loud American family ;)
We’ve been riding a lot of trains and buses. I sure wish Atlanta (and the US in general) had a better transit infrastructure…
I was able to go on a short trip to Sweden where several of my college tennis teammates were meeting up for a reunion! Of course I brought some Dragon Army swag for them ;)
We took a 3-day trip to Paris, and we spent one day in the city, mostly seeing the Eiffel Tower, and then…
We surprised the kids by taking them to Disneyland Paris! Emily and I debated whether or not to do this, but the kids have been so great and we figured this would be a unique experience, so we pulled the trigger and couldn’t have had more fun.
There is currently a big Marvel experience happening at Disneyland Paris, which was great for the kids. Drew got a chance to meet Spider-man, his hero :)
This is the kids waiting for our train leaving Disneyland. A train that was TWO HOURS LATE. This photo was taken at 11pm, and it just shows how amazing our children have been on this trip. They were exhausted and hungry, yet here they are all bunched up reading and goofing around. They continue to blow us away with how exceptionally great they’ve been.
