One big reason why I’m an entrepreneur
In the above video, Warren Buffet (who I’ve written about a few times on this blog recently, love the guy) talks about loving his job because he gets to work with people that he enjoys. If he doesn’t like someone, he just doesn’t work with them. That’s a luxury only available to entrepreneurs*.
He’s 100% right, and it might be the thing I like the most about being an entrepreneur. You might be the CEO of a large corporation, but there are still things you can’t control unless you own the business. You probably have Board members you don’t like, partners you’re stuck with, sometimes even leaders that you can’t figure out how to get rid of.
At Dragon Army, we don’t have anyone that doesn’t fit. No a$$holes for sure, but also no bummers. Clients that don’t fit with us, well they don’t last either. We recently walked away from a sizable amount of work with a client that we didn’t want to associate with any more. And we can do that, because I make the final decision on such things. And I’m simply not going to associate with people I don’t like and respect.
I suppose the point is, there are so many great reasons to be an entrepreneur, that if you do end up making the jump, use your power to make sure you aren’t working with people who you dislike. Life is too short, and you’re working too hard.

* I should clarify, I’m talking about entrepreneurs that do not have investors or Board members that somehow control what they do. I have tremendous partners who allow me to operate as I see fit.
