Want to know what I’m excited about? 48in48!
I’m so excited to announce 48in48!
Adam Walker and I have worked so hard to bring this event to life, and now we are finally ready to start spreading the word. Oh, right, what’s 48in48?
We are going to build 48 custom websites for 48 Atlanta nonprofits.
In 48 hours.
Crazy, right? But it’s possible!
The idea came to me over a year ago when I started thinking about all the hackathons that happen over a weekend. They’re almost always technology driven (building apps, for example) and rarely do they focus on the nonprofit community. So how could we apply that concept to help nonprofits?
Nonprofits don’t usually need apps, but they all need great websites and most are lacking in the ability to create them.
So that’s the BIG idea. 48 websites in 48 hours. How can you help? Glad you asked :)
– You can help us spread the word! Follow us on all the appropriate channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – some of these are still a work in progress). Tell your friends. Heck, blog about the event if you can!
– Participate! We will need over 100 developers, over 50 designers, a dozen or so user experience experts, a bunch of volunteers to help, and a ton of nonprofits to sign up. Sign up on the site to participate (thanks to Sideways8 for the website!)
– Get your company to sponsor the event! We have some amazing sponsors already (Sideways8, IBM, Red Bull, Sagepath, Sandbox, General Assembly, Digitas, Friendly Human, and of course, Dragon Army), but we are still looking for funds to help with a few things. We’d love your support!
I hope you share my excitement about the tremendous amount of good that can be done through this event!
