Why I don’t use the Pebble Watch anymore

I love the Pebble watch. It’s a terrific first generation smart watch and I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly for about a year. But unfortunately, I can’t use it anymore because it drains the mess out of my battery! I probably go through two full charges a day when having my S4 connected to the Pebble throughout the day. So for that reason alone it isn’t a device I can use.

I also had a very embarrassing moment happen at a small conference recently due to the Pebble. There were probably 50 people in the room and someone was speaking and I noticed that my Pebble had frozen (which is odd, I think that’s the first time its happened to me). I started clicking buttons on it and nothing would change it, so I hard pressed two of the buttons to try to restart it. Somehow this activated the music player on my phone and the ESPN podcast I had been listening to fired up, right in the middle of the conference. And it took me a few seconds to realize what was happening, which was all the time it took for everyone in the room to turn and look at the idiot who started playing an ESPN podcast. Of course, this could happen with any smart watch but hopefully with the next generation of watches coming out this kind of bug won’t happen.

On the other hand, I’m very excited about the Kreyos watch that will be coming – fingers-crossed – by the end of this month. Here’s 11 reasons why I’m excited about it. And from what I can tell, the Kreyos uses bluetooth low energy whereas the Pebble (at least on Android) does not, which should help tremendously with battery life.
