How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia (quick book review)
In my pursuit of reading more books this year, I finished my 10th book last week, How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia. I learned about this book by listening to a podcast in which Chris Sacca talked about it.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever read anything similar to this book. It’s written in the second person, and “you” are the main protagonist. The story follows your life in Asia (never saying exactly where in Asia you are), where you start as a young, sick child in a very poor village. You work your way through the system, scratching and clawing your way to different levels of “success” throughout your life. It’s powerful, and moving, and at times a bit disturbing. And I was captivated by it the entire time.
I listened to this book on Audible, and it is read by the author, which I always find to be a great way to listen to a book. I think it took about a week to knock it out, listening to it on my commute and on runs.
I won’t give too much away other than to say I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and it reminded me of this story.
I think that interview with Sacca is my favorite of them all. The sweet and sour summers and his mom pulling him out of school to go hear artists was brilliant! This book is now in my audible queue. Now I just need a longer commute so I can catch up.
It’s funny, I do think nowadays, “Man, I wish I had a longer commute sometimes!”
