I’d love to read a blog post about how merchandising concerns play into game development at the conceptual level for you guys, not a lot of good examples out there.

I probably don’t have a post-worth of thoughts on that…yet :) We think about merchandising and IP licensing with each game concept we work on, so its always in our thoughts, but nothing formal at this point. Hopefully, more to come! And please share anything if you find it!
