And the trend continues #azizansari

Aziz is selling his special direct to the customer for $5.

Did I mention I love this trend? The one where artists sell their albums and specials directly to the customer via their website, for a crazy low price because they’re cutting out the old, arthritic middle men? Yep, I mentioned back in December when Louis C.K. (my favorite comedian) did this. Brilliant then, brilliant now.

Aziz Ansari is doing pretty much the exact same thing that Louis did. $5, download it and put it on any and all of your devices.

The only thing I’d like to see these guys do differently is have an affiliate program where if you tweet or blog or Facebook the special, you get something extra. Maybe its an old special of his or an extra five minutes. The point is: make your fans the media.

But its hard to complain about this trend. I’m hoping that all media starts to embrace this model. That’s how we’ll get to a point where we don’t need cable subscriptions any longer. We won’t need to pay for 523 channels when all we want are 12 shows and live events. It’s why you have people like Siegler complaining about having no easy way to get season 2 of Game of Thrones. It’s crazy, he WANTS to pay money for it.

What’s going to help this continue is a few huge stars or companies doing it and showing the world that they don’t need the old model any longer. It’s coming, the only question is how long it will take.
