I generally hate job titles…but I LOVE this one

I get the need for titles, but I hate what they do to some people. You know what I’m talking about. Some people feel the need to treat others differently based on their job title rather than treating everyone with the same level of respect.

You shouldn’t aspire to a title, you should aspire to do work that you’re passionate about and to kick ass at it. The titles will work themselves out as long as you’re focused on the right goal.

Either way, this wasn’t meant to be me jumping on my soap box about this topic.  Instead, I got an email from a friend of mine and saw in his signature he had a truly badass title.  It was:

Director, Do Less Stupid

How awesome is that. What are some other out of the box titles you’ve seen?

My old boss at the bike shop had “Pappa Smurf” on his car. He also had a small stack that said “chief asshole” but those were for special vendors :)

When I first started at the “DotCom” where I spent eight years of my career, one of my clients had the title “Fiery God of All Things”.  I thought it was a big joke until I met the CEO.  When I asked him about his colleague, he said with deadpan seriousness: “Oh John?  Yeah he is our Fiery God of All Things”.

In some ways I am thrilled that the DotCom bubble came and passed…

One of my favorites is “Director of First Impressions.” This title belonged to an individual working the front-desk of an agency. This person was one of the most hardest working, most positive colleagues I had the pleasure of working with.

How about CFO (Chief Fun Officer). Makes sure the staff and clients are enjoying the ride!
