Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.

“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”

~ Mark Twain

There sure are a lot of angry people in our country these days. And rightfully so. I’ll never try to tell someone they don’t have the right to be angry, I can only be in my shoes and see the world from my lens. Sure, I try my best to understand other people’s perspective, but you can only ever really know the world from your perspective.

So, yes, its ok to get angry.

But don’t STAY angry. Don’t allow your anger to give you a pass to call someone an offensive name. Or to blind your ability to empathize. Or, for crying out loud, to vandalize a Starbucks because you’re mad about the new President. I’m with you, he’s the worst, but letting your anger control you isn’t the answer.

USE your anger in a positive way. You’re angry because something happened. Use that passion that initially surfaces as rage and point it toward solving the problem. Energy and passion and intensity are great things. I would dare say nothing great has ever happened without those emotions pouring through individuals.

The people that use their passion, their anger, to find a solution are always going to win out over those that use it to bring other people down. Don’t let anger turn into hate. Turn it into passion, and use that passion to make the change you want to see in the world.
