Using the iPad as an external monitor wirelessly is #badass

As I try to decide which tablet I like better, the iPad or the Galaxy Tab, I just figured out something that gives the iPad a leg up.

Using the Avatron Air Display app, I was able to make the iPad a second monitor for my Macbook Air.  Frakkin cool.  Check out how I used it below to run Tweetdeck.

PS – I wrote this blog on the Tab just for the irony of it.

Another couple of “killer apps” on the iPad for me are AirVideo (https://www.inmethod.com/air-video/index.html) and KLEXi (https://www.ambertation.de/en/klexi/). An honorable mention should be made to the native iOS Plex app (https://plexapp.com/ios.php).

Using any of these apps I can watch my media server files remotely. Great if you are traveling, or just want to watch something in bed. The Plex app(s) also double as a remote, a media browser or full plex clients.

Similarly, I can wirelessly connect an iPad to my DSLR camera to review images on-the-fly in a large format (as opposed to the back of the camera). So an assistant , producer or art director has the ability to see and rate images as they are shot, allowing for real time production participation and a jump on the post shoot review process. The next step: taking it to the web for remote participation – basically allowing production staff to be virtually present (in real time) on a shoot from anywhere in the world via tablets or other computing devices. Of course, this can also be a bad thing. LOL. ;)

Sweet. I’m going to try this with my Mac Mini and my iPad.

There’s no reason any tablet with a VNC connection can’t be this. You may have just inspired me to write an app.
