“Well, that’s the reason I’m here!”
I was in a board meeting of a local Atlanta nonprofit last week, and the Executive Director (ED) stated their newly defined mission to the group. Part of the mission was to “change the world” through their service, and the ED indicated (with her candid humility) that really, we can probably only change our local community, but its good to dream big!
I spoke up after a little while and said to the group that I actually did think that we could change the world. The work the group is doing, yes, would mostly affect the local Atlanta community, but the impact from those affected locally would positively affect a bigger community, which ultimately would have a ripple effect of goodness spread through the world.
The ED quickly responded saying that she was thrilled that I thought we could change the world. To which I replied, “Well, that’s the reason I’m here!”
Because of my Purpose – to have an outsized, positive impact on the world – and considering the many things I’m involved in, its critical that if I’m going to spend time on something, I want it to have a chance to make a BIG impact.
I’d encourage you to do the same. Take stock in the things you spend time on. Recognize that you have talents and gifts to give to this world, and make sure you’re making the biggest impact that you can!
