The one word that Buffett and Gates claim has been the biggest reason for their success

When Bill Gates and Warren Buffett (I’m kinda obsessed with this dude) were just getting to know each other, they were asked by someone to write down one word on a piece of paper that has made the biggest impact in their success. They both independently wrote the exact same word:

FOCUS

Obviously, I couldn’t agree more. In fact, here are some of my thoughts on focus:

What a crushing defeat in tennis taught me about the power of focus

5 Steps to help you focus and be exceptional at the things that are most important to you

The power of focus

Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses

Sit down and put everything that you spend time on into various buckets. Try to chunk them into 4-5 groups. Figure out which of those chunks is more important than the others.

And then, if you want to achieve greatness, kill the rest.

You are the second former boss of mine to really drive this home..meaning that this whole focus thing is probably important ;). The owner of the last agency I worked at used to hammer this with us a lot. So much so that he put it in a book he wrote and we created visual art for it to hang in the office before I left. Awesome, thanks for sharing. Focusing, especially when you control your day-to-day decisions (ie being an entrepreneur), is critical!
