Let’s do this, Q4

Q4 for most companies is October, November, and December. It’s the end of the year, effectively the last chance to hit your numbers and finish the year in the win column.

I break my life down into three major categories: Family, Dragon Army, and Doing Good. Any time left over after those three things is bonus. And Q4 is going to be big for all of them.

Family time in Q4 is huge simply due to the many holidays during that time. For us, those are Halloween, Thanksgiving (my favorite), Christmas, and New Years. And we have three birthdays in my family of seven during that time. Add in all the sports, birthday parties, and church events, and Q4 is going to be super busy for the fam.

When it comes to Dragon Army, now that a majority of our business is in the “agency” category – meaning we build mobile experiences for clients – the 4th quarter is always the busiest. Clients need projects completed or kicked-off. Campaigns are launching. And all the while, people working on the client side and the agency side are taking vacations or time-off for holiday.

And we’re poised to have an amazing Q4. We’ve landed half a dozen new clients in the last several weeks, and we’re ramping up the team appropriately. Q2 and Q3 (“the summer months”) were a bit slow for us, but the kind of growth we’re having now is what we’ve been planning for. Should be an exciting ride!

On top of that, I need to make progress on my book. I’m getting conflicting advice on whether I should use a publisher or not, so my goal is to decide on that this quarter while also making progress on writing the first few chapters.

And on the Doing Good front, currently my two main focuses are 48in48 and Central OAC. Both 48in48 events are in Q4, Atlanta last weekend and New York this coming weekend, so it’s by far the busiest period of time for the 48in48 crew. I spent the night both nights at the Atlanta event and will be traveling to New York this Thursday to be there for that event. And then we’ll start budget and vision planning for 2017 as soon as we get back!

I sit as the Board Chair for Central OAC, where we open doors to overcome and prevent homelessness (our new mission, yay!) We are kicking off our new 3-Year Strategic Plan, which we just completed, and working on our 2017 budget. So Q4 is a super busy time for the Board and staff at OAC.

So I guess what I’m saying is, I’m coming for you, Q4!
