The unequivocal power of patience for entrepreneurs

By our nature, we (entrepreneurs) are not very patient. And it’s a good thing, too, because change rarely comes from those who are patient.

The problem is that there are times when patience is critical to the success of a startup.

Over my career, during which I’ve been an entrepreneur since day one when I founded my first company in college, I’ve definitely made the mistake of not being patient enough.

Sometimes that meant pivoting too quickly. Or hiring someone before the company was ready for it. Or trying to sell things we just weren’t ready to execute on.

I’ve realized that with Dragon Army I need to be much more patient. Our bet is that mobile will continue to be a much more substantial aspect of marketing over the next two years. Sure, we could be earning more revenue if we allowed ourselves to do more than just mobile, but we don’t want to distract ourselves. We want to be the best mobile partner in the world.

So we are being patient.

For someone like me that’s a very difficult thing. I’m always “go go go.” But in this case, with the help of a clearly defined vision, I can see that being patient is the best strategy for us and that we will be stronger and better for it.
