How and where I find news and articles to read

I was reflecting recently on the ways that I find out about things. News about what’s going on in the world, what’s up with my friends, etc. I decided to take a quick inventory on the apps and devices I use on a daily basis to stay informed on such things.

(in order of most used / where I learn the most)

Industry news (news on mobile, technology, gaming, etc.):

  1. Flipboard on my phone
  2. Dragon Army Slack, split between my phone and my laptop. Dragon Army essentially runs on Slack, and we share a lot of industry news through it.

World / general news:

  1. Skimmed via dialy email, mostly on my phone
  2. CNN app on my phone

Interest articles / blogs (I “read” most of these via Pocket on my iPad, but this list is where I find them):

  1. Medium via daily email, mostly on my phone. I don’t directly go to the Medium website nor do I use the Medium app.
  2. Feedly app, split evenly between phone and tablet
  3. Twitter, split between phone and laptop (via Tweetbot)

Friend / family news:

  1. Instagram on phone
  2. Facebook (mostly on laptop website)

Sports news:

  1. PTI Podcast, via the Podcast app on my phone
  2. ESPN mobile website on my phone

What I find really interesting about this list is that I find out more about my friends via Instagram (photo and a little video), and I find out more about sports via a podcast (audio).

So that’s me, share how you’re getting your news!

Google Now on my phone aggregates my Feedly and other sources for me. I love having a single place connect multiple feeds.
