Facebook’s tenets

Wall at Facebook HQ

I’m a big “tenets” guy. All the teams that report to me at Engauge are required to have three core tenets that define their team’s mission and their goals for the year.

A friend recently shared with me Facebook’s core tenets. I’m not sure exactly how official these are, but they seem to make sense given what I’ve heard about their culture and Zuck’s approach to running a business.

Facebook’ tenets (again, as shared by a friend):

Move fast and break things

Done is better than perfect

Stay focused and keep shipping

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

Fortune favors the bold

Yep, and this is why developers who have to work with Facebook API’s wish Mark Zuckerberg were dead. It’s all great to have those types of internal mantras when it doesn’t affect anyone else’s livelihood. But when clients and developers and tens of thousands of other people’s dollars are involved, it just become reckless.

But you know how I feel about that :)

Ha! Yep, know the pain that this brings as well, mostly from your education on the topic over the years.  There must be a way to address both the innovation and the stability of the platform…but I don’t have the answer.
