An inspiring quote on leadership and confidence

I recently read the book Onward by Howard Schultz. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone that has sold his/her business or works for a company that is trying to refocus and get back that entrepreneurial spirit, remembering why the company was started in the first place. Or if you’re a fan of Starbucks you’ll love this book, obviously.

One random effect the book had on me was a renewed interest in finding that perfect cup of coffee.  Schultz loves his coffee and after reading about his passion, I’ve since purchased a french press and in fact I’m enjoying a cup of coffee from it while I write this.

More to the point however, Schultz has a quote about confidence in leadership that I just had to include in a blog post. Having recently written about the importance of confidence and four ways to get it, I felt like this quote by Schultz encaspulated the spirit of what I was trying to express.

He says:

I’ve never bought into the notion that there is a single recipe for successful leadership. But I do think effective leaders share two intertwined attributes: an unbridled level of confidence about where their organizations are headed, and the ability to bring people along.

How true.
