It’s not easy to have a moral compass for your company…wait, no actually it’s incredibly easy
This week I’m at the Conscious Company 2019 CEO Summit in Austin, Texas. Every leader here believes that business should be a force for good in the world. I dig it :)
When you boil it down, however, I believe that being a company with a heart – having a moral compass for your company – is a lot easier than people make it out to be.
Let’s start with this: treat people the way you want to be treated. Why does it have to be any more difficult than that?
Treat your employees the way you would want to be treated as an employee.
Treat your partners the way you want partners to treat your company.
Yes, in the short-term, you might grow a little more slowly. You might turn down a client that’s treating your team badly, or let go of that highly-productive team member that’s killing your culture. Those kind of decisions will certainly slow your momentum. In the short-term.
But in the long run, your company will become a place that people actually want to go every day – imagine that! All you have to do is start making decisions that you already know are the right ones, you just didn’t have the courage to make them before.
Side note, if you’re an employee at a company that doesn’t seem to have a heart, my advice is change the place you work, or change the place you work ;)
