I didn’t come this far to only come this far

A recent Dragon Army company meeting

I’ve had the great fortune of having started a few businesses that have done well. The first, Spunlogic, I started with my college roommate and then 10 years later, with 75 employees, we sold the company. The sale was to a great private equity company that put my team together with two other agencies they acquired, all of us co-founding Engauge.

At Engauge, we grew the business for five and a half years and then sold it in late 2013, with all of our 200+ team members going to Moxie, minus me. I was ready to start my next thing.

Since that time, I’ve been working on my third business, Dragon Army. If you’re doing the math, we’re four and a half years old. We’ve pivoted a few times and now we’re a web, mobile, and innovation agency, with just over 40 team members and we’re in fancy, new office space :) Oh and we get to build great products with great partners!

The point

I get asked quite a bit why I continue to work so hard to build Dragon Army. This sometimes comes as a person gets wind of the many things I’m involved in, and then sees how much I put into building DA and how passionate I am about the business.

“Why don’t you just sit back and invest in startups and spend time with the nonprofits you’re involved with, instead of grinding out another business?”

Easy. Because I freaking love it.

And I believe that Dragon Army can be a positive force in this world, and that perhaps by successfully doing good through the business AND growing successfully, we can show other business leaders that its possible to do both.

And then, the world will be a little bit better. And that’s really the goal here. With a Purpose of “Inspiring Happiness”, how could I not want to do this?! :)
