How you do anything is how you do everything

I’ve always loved this phrase: How you do anything is how you do everything.

If you’re disorganized at home, you’re probably disorganized at work. Or if you can’t find the motivation to work out, you probably struggle to find the motivation to push yourself in other ways.

Hitting that snooze button on a regular basis? You’re probably procrastinating on other things that need to get done.

I try to look for signs of this in my life, where I’m cutting a corner or taking the easy road when I should be doing the hard work.

Doing life right takes hard work. Doing anything well takes hard work. And hard work is…well, hard.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

It’s even a book. And James Altucher wrote about it, so you know there’s some truth there. I used to read a ton of Altucher’s stuff, btw.

Here’s how it works. Ask yourself these two questions:

#1 What behaviors do you want to have when the rubber meets the road? In order to accomplish your big goals, what characteristics and self traits do you need to have? And then once you’ve figured that out…

#2 Are you exhibiting those qualities all the time? Or are you telling yourself, “Well, I don’t need to be disciplined in this area of my life, I’ll suit up and kick ass when it comes to doing that other, important thing.

Be the person you want to be ALL THE TIME.

ALL. THE. TIME.
