Here’s how you make something happen

One of my favorite entrepreneurs in Atlanta, Jon Birdsong, is showing everyone how to get something done. Jon is one of the team members at Atlanta Ventures, which exists to serve entrepreneurs.

Jon had a “burning desire” to help foster more honest, trustworthy, and real local journalism. He wanted great writers to have a forum to tell stories that matter. He actually created a memorandum on this.

But very few opportunities like this exist, so he created it. It’s called Burning Letter. The first article is: Do We Really Still Need to Talk About Atlanta’s 2017 Mayoral Election? And its PHENOMENAL.

Not only did he create the platform, but he also created a way to fund it. Enter Rolling Letter, a service that allows you to create better email capture forms (see examples above.) He uses the funds from Rolling Letter to support his passion project, Burning Letter.

Brilliant.

This is what I’m talking about when I say you can (to a large degree) control our destiny. It’s one thing to sit around and complain that you want better stories from better writers. It’s another thing to create that platform, hire the writers, and build a startup to support it long term.

Great job, JB!

PS – I just signed up for Rolling Letter, which means soon you will see a beautiful prompt to sign up to receive this blog via email (or you can do that right now by clicking here.)
