What apps do you use to get the news?

I can be a bit of a news junkie…and an app junkie. And with those two bad habits, I’m always interested in what apps people use to get their news.

Right now I’m using the following, in order of times I check them per day:

Flipboard – I use this app the most, checking it frequently throughout the day. I love the ability to customize the different channels I subscribe to (like CNN, etc.,) and the UI is still the best in my opinion. If I had to pick five apps to keep on my phone, I’d be hard-pressed not to keep Flipboard.

Reddit – I get *some* news here, but mostly its fun content. But I check Reddit multiple times a day as well and often get scoops on stories there first.

Quortz – I recently started playing with this news app. It is set up in such a unique user interface – looks/feels like you’re texting with someone who has the news – that I find myself enjoying it in these early days. Unfortunately most of the news I’m getting from it I have already received elsewhere, so I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be using it. Check it out:

NY Times – I currently do not have a subscription, but its my preferred native news app. Unfortunately for the Times, I’m pretty comfortable reading a headline and the first sentence or two of the story and then moving on, which is what the non-paid version gives you.

ESPN – I don’t use the app, just the mobile website, but its how I get sports news.

[…] Reddit and Flipboard – I check Reddit at least once a day when I have a few minutes to kill. Reddit is a new homescreen-worthy app for me, whereas Flipboard has been a staple for many years. More on how I get the news via apps. […]
