It’s all about the reps and mileage

I’m almost finished reading (well, listening to if I’m being honest) Arnold Schwarzenegger’s autobiography, Total Recall. I’m sure I will write a post about this book. Of all the books I’ve read about entrepreneurs, I’m pretty close to saying Arnold might be the BEST example of a true entrepreneur. You’re probably confused by that statement, as I would have been before this book. More on that later.

One of the expressions he uses in the book is “you gotta put in the reps and mileage.” He’s referencing the amount of time you have to put in to be successful. The endless hours, the unsexy hard work, the hustle. And this guy worked like no other.

Anything he would put his mind to accomplishing, he’d then immediately start putting in the time to make it so.

In my experience, most people overlook the amount of time it takes to start a new company or entrepreneurial endeavor. I tell people all the time, “Your idea might be great, or it might be terrible. What I think doesn’t matter. The only way to know is to work like crazy for years to bring it to life. It’s all in the execution.”

Now I might start saying, it’s all in the reps and mileage.
