The company you keep impacts the company you keep

There are several expressions that talk about the company you keep. The one I always heard from my tennis coach was, “If you lay down with dogs, you’ll come up with fleas.”

The idea being: hang out with losers and you’ll end up one.

As a father, I think about this a lot. I’m always wondering if my kids’ friends are going to be good influences on them, and vice versa.

This applies to business just as much. The type of people you have in your company, the type of partners you work with, the type of clients you take on, all of that will effect the health of your business.

Or more to the point, if they are losers, your company is going to be a loser.

At Dragon Army we hire against a set of three core values – team first, think positively, and have fun – to make sure we add new team members that are going to be aligned with our culture and vision.

But at a more basic level, we hire people that we think are going to raise us up, not bring us down. The type of person we add to our team is infinitely more important than their skill sets and experience.
