Kinda feels like Audible has been reading my diary with the introduction of Channels

AudibleChannels

I’m a huge Audible (audio books) fan. It’s the only way I was able to crush my 2015 # of books read goal. I primarily listen in the car or when I’m on a run.

I’ve often wanted a way to listen to short bits of news content. I’m a big podcast guy as well, but podcasts are usually 30+ minutes, so it’s hard for it to be true “snackable” content.

So when I saw the update for Audible’s Channels feature, I dove right in. And so far, it’s just what I’ve been wanting.

You can choose from a variety of channels, either based on topics (like U.S. Politics) or specific publications (like The New York Times). And then in each of those channels, there is either someone reading original content or reading articles from publications. There’s even a comedy channel with bits from popular comedians.

For me, its tough to find time to read The New York Times on a consistent basis. I can skin the headlines but usually I’m moving too fast to sit and read an entire article. But now with Audible Channels, I can listen to the articles while driving.

I’ll be curious to see how this will affect the number of books I end up downloading from Audible, or whether or not they’ll somehow start charging for the ability to listen to Channels. My guess is they’ll charge one credit a month for that ability, or require you to at least be a one credit a month subscriber. Either way, I’m enjoying it immensely so far.
