5 things to know about 48in48 in 2016

Last year, I co-founded a nonprofit in Atlanta with Adam Walker called 48in48. The mission:

to empower communities to help 48 local nonprofits in 48 hours by assisting their marketing and technology efforts through hackathon-style events

We held our first event in Atlanta in October and it was amazing. Over 150 volunteers came to General Assembly’s space at Ponce City Market and we built 48 nonprofit websites in 48 hours. Here’s a recap video by one of our amazing sponsors, Friendly Human:

So, what are Adam and I doing with 48in48 this year? Glad you asked :)

1. We hired our first full time staffer, Carole Williams, who started as 48in48’s Executive Director on January 1st. She’s amazing, and with her leadership, we feel bullish on our big plans for this year.

2. We’re going to try to hit 3-4 cities, including Atlanta, in 2016.

3. The first city we want to hit is New York, and the plan is to do that in April. We’re already fundraising and working on the schedule to try to pull it off.

4. We’re in the process of planning something for our Atlanta event this year, which will likely be in the October – December timeframe. Stay tuned on that, we have some big ideas that we’ll hopefully share soon.

5. Eventually, we’d love to have dozens of 48in48 events going on around the country on the same weekend. That’s the lofty goal ;)
