I’ll paypal $5 to the first person who can tell me how to do this in gmail…

I very much want to automatically archive everything that doesn’t fall into the Priority Inbox on gmail, so that my “inbox” only ever has emails deemed as “Important”. I need this not necessarily for the web version of gmail, but for the apps I use to access my gmail account (iPhone and iPad Mail apps, and now Mailbox on the iPhone).

So the goal would be to have anything that falls in the “Everything else” section of gmail account to automatically go into the Archive folder, so at any point when I check gmail on my iPhone it will only pull the Priority Inbox into the Inbox.

I’ve searched through gmail’s features and searched the web, and can’t seem to figure out how to make this happen. First person to figure it out and let me know, I’ll paypal $5 to ya.

I think you may be out of luck here.

The search you want is “-is:important”

That returns all items that are NOT important. Then, you’d create a filter from that and have it skip the inbox.

However, when I try to create a filter using this, Gmail throws up a warning stating that it’s not a good idea to use this (and a couple other searches) as they will never match incoming mail.

Thanks, RD. I’m still holding out hope that someone will figure it out, but if YOU couldn’t, I’m not going to hold my breath.
