Disney thinking outside the (console) box with Kinect game

I love seeing how companies are using the Xbox Kinect these days. There’s a Kinect Star Wars game and this freaky Kinect zombie game. Cool stuff.

Who doesn’t have great memories of going to Disney World as a kid, or taking their kids to Disney World? It’s one of the aspects of the overall Disney brand (they have many: movies, games, songs, clothing, etc) that you usually only experience a few times a decade.

Not any longer.  Disney has, in my mind, done a really exciting thing by creating this Xbox Kinect Disneyland Adventures game. In the game, people can walk through the park, rekindling old memories, finding adventures to take on and meeting and interacting with the characters.

Here’s a review from someone that purchased the game: Wow! I’ve only played a couple hours, but wanted to share some impressions.
I’ve been to Disneyland a handful of times and the park is faithfully recreated in the game. Playing it brought back memories from my actual visits.

It’s unique that a brand can find ways to rekindle those kind of feelings. Kudos to Disney for thinking outside the (console) box and finding a way for them to extend a physical experience into the home.

You can walk around Disneyland in this Xbox Kinect game.
