The Knicks love LeBron, but do they LIKE him? Not really.

It’s the LeBron James extravaganza these days, with everyone vying for the chance to have him join their team.  There’s an entire section of ESPN dedicated to it, called The LeBron Tracker.  On the cab ride to my hotel the other day, they were running ads for “C’mon LeBron”, a movement trying to get people to rally around bringing LeBron to NY.

Now, I don’t know how many people are Knicks season ticket holders, and I don’t know how many people are seeing these ads.  But I do think that number is far more than 4,000.  So you can imagine my surprise when I went to the C’mon LeBron Facebook Page and saw that less than 4,000 people have joined the effort.

And its not like they aren’t promoting the Facebook page.  It’s on every ad I’ve seen and its a major part of the cmonlebron.com website.

So I guess what this is saying is, Knicks fans like LeBron, but they don’t like like him?  What it tells me is that if you’re going to run an effort like this and make it public so LeBron sees it, you better make sure you get a high number of people to sign up.

Remember the last time New York decided they wanted to bring someone in?  This happened:

Her name was Betty White.  And over 500,000 people “liked” her support page.  Ouch.

If LeBron goes to that Facebook page and sees the lack of support, he’ll realize he has more people than that in his entourage and probably send Spike Lee a rain check.

You failed miserably in this article. I'm a die hard Knicks fan and did not hear about this all-important Facebook page that is supposed to bring Lebron to New York. I guess they aren't marketing it right. Wow, get real. Maybe Minnesota should organize their own Minnesota for Lebron facebook page and amass 5,000,000 members. That would get Lebron there for sure, using your brilliant logic.

People just have so much negativity against New York these days.

Actually I think you're missing the point here. It's obvious that this was not marketed well, which is why no one is “liking” this page. Which means this has failed, but it just didn't fail, it failed PUBLICLY.

So where was I wrong? Do you think this is a positive thing to get Lebron to come to the Knicks? The whole point of this effort is so that Lebron sees it and says, “Damn, NY really wants me!”. Instead, its being half-assed and could possibly hurt NY's chances. So this campaign is actually saying, “NY isn't really interested in you coming here.” That's not really how NY feels, but that's how this campaign is portraying it.

So did you really read my post or did you skim it and assume I was Knicks-bashing? Half my family is from NY, I'd love to see him go there.
