Thanks to Betty White, we now have a use for Facebook

If you missed it, Betty White was on SNL this past weekend.  She killed.  Who’da thunk it.

What’s cool about this story is that some dude started a Facebook Fan Page called, “Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!“, and somehow got over 500,000 people to like it.  I didn’t even know 500,000 people watched SNL.  Or Betty White.

According to interviews I have seen, Betty White didn’t even have a Facebook page previous to this (not sure she does now but there’s one that has gained traction and has 125,000 fans, hard to tell if that’s her official one or not).

So this is a case where the people truly have a voice.  It’s not like Betty White was campaigning to get the gig.  A movement started and carried her along for the ride.

I think this social media thing is kinda powerful.

Here’s a clip of Betty talking about the Facebook experience:

Here’s her opening segment on SNL:

Who would have thought one Snickers commercial would turn into a huge grassroots movement to revive an 88 year old woman's acting career – much less talk about her dusty muffin on live TV?

Now she might even be one of the next contestants on Dancing with the Stars: https://entertainment.gather.com/viewArticle.act

Facebook is definitely the new digital petition. Pretty soon every reality TV show will require applicants to get 1,000 likes before they are even considered for an interview.
