Introducing Google Reader Play – thumbs up or thumbs down?

So I was messing around in Google Reader this morning, trying to catch up on all the content I’ve subscribed to.  Oh, I’m starting to get more interested in connecting with people on Google Reader so if you’re interested, connect with me!  I’ve found it very beneficial to be able to share content with friends within Reader (and thus, additionally within Feedly).

So while I was browsing Reader this morning, I saw this alert:

Google Reader Play, huh?  So it looks kinda like a StumbleUpon.  Google does like to do this, wait years after something has been successful and then quietly roll out a very similar service, give it no love and watch it wither and die over time (how you feeling these days, Buzz?).

I did stumble upon (pun intended) this pretty cool Pencil vs. Camera blog post.

I guess the real question is, like many of Google’s non-search services, will I actually use this?  Hard to tell at this point but if I had to guess, probably not.

Anyone have a different take on why this might be something of interest?  I can’t see it yet.
