All the cool kids are worried about Oprah on Twitter. Please.

Wow, this is really interesting.  All the early adopters are getting upset with Oprah signing up for Twitter.  What is everyone scared of?  Let’s see.

Twitter is a great way to communicate with people that you’re interested in.  You can learn from and interact with people that tweet about things that interest you. And you only have to listen to the people that you choose to follow.

Uh, so, if you’re worried about Oprah saying dumb things on Twitter (she will), then, uh, don’t follow her.  It’s the ultimate mute button.  How is that going to affect you exactly?

Oh, I know, its because a ton of “fake” people will join Twitter now and not know what it is and start listening to everything Oprah says.  Uh, well, then don’t follow them either.

Let’s continue to make fun of her but don’t overreact and act like you have to take your toys and find a new sandbox.  Guess what, Oprah’s been on Twitter for a few days now and the only way its affected me is because everyone is freaking out about it.  Otherwise, I haven’t noticed a thing.

This just in: Oprah has a Facebook page!  Oh crap, now we have to quit that too.  I just hope she doesn’t buy a Mac :(

I think my animosity at the whole Ashton/Oprah situation isn't so much that I think it will affect me. I won't follow either one of them. However, I wonder how this will start a trend on Twitter that ultimately will be its downfall.

Think about the new Twitter user. They sign up and look for people to get started following. If they go by what sites like WeFollow.com and even Twitter itself recommends, it's going to be people with the highest number of followers. And that's going to be celebrity blowhards with nothing to say and no merits for being at the top, other than they have better vehicles for getting the word out.

Really smart people with something to say, or legitimate news sources will be completely drowned in the flood of celebrity douchebags that's sure to follow. And social media users are a fickle, short-attention-span bunch. They congregate with the biggest crowds. Once people start leaving for higher ground, Twitter will become a husk leaving behind nothing but Oprah, Ashton and a bunch of huckster marketers.

'Course that's just my opinion :)
